Age Limit, Marital Status, and Gender

Eligibility criteria for different courses under the CDS exam are as follows: For Indian Military Academy (IMA) - Unmarried male candidates should have been born between 2nd January 1998 and 1st January 2003.

For Indian Naval Academy - Unmarried male candidates should have been born between 2nd January 1998 and 1st January 2003.

For Air Force Academy - Candidates should be aged between 20 and 24 years as on 1st January 2022, i.e. they should have been born between 2nd January 1998 and 1st January 2002. Candidates holding a valid and current Commercial Pilot License issued by DGCA (India) can be up to 26 years old, i.e. they should have been born between 2nd January 1996 and 1st January 2002.

Note: Candidates who are below 25 years of age must be unmarried. Married candidates who are above 25 years of age are eligible, but they will not be provided with any family accommodation or allowed to live outside the premises with their family. For Officers' Training Academy (OTA) (SSC Course for men) - Unmarried male candidates should have been born between 2nd January 1997 and 1st January 2003. Male divorcee/widower candidates will not be treated as unmarried.

For OTA,( SSC Course for women)-Unmarried women who were born between 2nd January 1997 and 1st January 2003 , women who are divorced without any children and widows without any children who have not remarried are also eligible.

Educational Qualification

The minimum educational qualification for admission in these institutes is a Bachelor’s degree from any recognized university. Note- It is mandatory for candidates who have listed Air Force/Navy/Army as their first choice in the application to provide proof of graduation/provisional certificate on the first day of their SSB Interview. Candidates who are in their final year of graduation are eligible to apply, provided they have no backlogs at the time of application and have paid the examination fee

Physical and Medical Standards

In terms of physical and medical fitness, UPSC has specific guidelines which also list medical conditions or diseases that may disqualify a candidate. Permanent body tattoos are only allowed on the inner side of the forearm, from elbow to wrist, and on the reverse side of the palm or back of the hand. Tattoos on any other part of the body are not permitted.

The minimum height and weight standards for eligibility vary according to the stream. The birth date provided must match the date of birth listed on their matriculation or 12th certificate, and proof of age must be submitted following the exam results. For Air Force and Naval Wings of NDA & for the 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme at the Indian Naval Academy - 12th Class pass of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent with Physics and Mathematics conducted by a State Education Board or a University.
